Quick Summary

  • Route had excellent public transit access
    • Took the PostAuto to Scuol, Val Mingèr
    • Returned with the PostAuto from Tarasp, Fontana
  • The first part of the hike went through the Val Mingèr, which is in the national park
    • Most of the path in the Val Mingèr was very well maintained
  • Descended from Sur il Foss to Alp Plavna
    • Part of the path had been washed away over the winter, which made for a handful of somewhat precarious passages

The high water level that had resulted from the above average snowfall the previous winter had eroded parts of the hiking trail and surrounding gravel roads.
  • Shortly after departing from Alp Plavana, we encountered a river crossing where the river had completely washed away the gravel road
    • We had to cross the fast-moving river using a makeshift plank that had been placed across it

  • From this point onward, the route consisted almost exclusively of gravel roads
  • Under ideal conditions, this route would have likely been mostly in the realm of T2 in terms of difficulty
    • Due to the parts of the trail that had been washed away, this route felt closer to being around T3
